Index

Citizen Daniel (1775–1835) and the Call of America contains such a wealth of references to people and places that we felt posting the index online would be very helpful, not only as a resource for those conducting genealogical research but also as a guide to the scope of the book itself.

Included in the index are the businesses (stores, inns, and taverns), contemporary authors and publications, people, places, tribes, and ships mentioned in the text. Proper names are given as they appear in letters and journals, and are cross-referenced to present-day spellings. Additional information, such as dates, professions, and locations, is provided where it can be discerned.

If you are searching for a specific person, please keep in mind that spelling was not standardized in the early 1800s. There are inconsistencies in spelling from one letter to the next, and it was not always apparent which spelling was "correct." If you happen to notice errors, or have pertinent information regarding people about whom we have been unable to offer much data, we would be grateful if you shared it with us. We hope to add information we gather here to future editions of this wonderful book.
